Transgender Restroom Controversy

Good grief; what is going on in this broken world in which we live?

I was recently asked my opinion on this most recent controversy over transgender bathrooms and everything else that seems so beyond what anyone would have contemplated even as recent as five years ago. Where did this sudden need for sensitivity and a necessity for transgender bathrooms evolve from?

So much has happened in our country’s sociological structure within these past five years alone. Recreational use of marijuana is rapidly becoming lawful in more and more states. Same sex marriage is now the law of the land in every state by supreme court decision. Now, transgender or trans-neutral restrooms are mandated in government and public facilities, including public schools by executive order from our country’s attorney general and the current administration. In our schools? Any school that receives government funding of any kind must allow any student’s “gender-inclination-of-the-moment” to use whatever restroom or shower facility that he/she is so inclined to use. Supreme court justices and many of our political leaders don’t see a problem with that?  What in the world is going on? That is simply crazy!

Seemingly all of a sudden, the fact is that subliminally and in small increments, changes were being discretely slipped into our culture for many years, building to this time in our history for the “perfect storm.” In a letter that Evangelist Billy Graham posted on his website several years ago, he wrote, “Punish America, or apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah….” America is definitely heading towards the doom of Sodom and Gomorrah.Capture3So now where did this hysteria over transgender bathrooms come from? How did we as a nation ever survive for over three hundred years without transgender restrooms, but with separate bathrooms for those born biologically male and female? Fact is, we did. It seems that this latest uproar gained speed within only the past year, energized by the celebrity of Bruce “Kaitlin” Jenner, born a male but self-convinced he was merely a woman trapped in a male body. Liberal Hollywood will no doubt be more bold in putting transgender episodes or themes in TV shows and movies, further “desensitizing” viewers. They did the same with homosexuality. It seems all sitcoms have at least one homosexual character in their scripts, and I suspect that the transgendered will be featured next.

Okay, we all remember Jamie Farr’s cross-dressing character “Klinger” in the hit TV show Mash and we probably simply laughed at his efforts to use this ploy to be sent home from duty in the Korean war setting. The show’s producers never inferred that cross-dressing was normal, but contrarily, bizarre behavior that was supposed to get a laugh, and Klinger out of the war zone. But it’s only a movie or TV show; what harm can that do? Subliminal desensitizing, to prepare for the next bold incremental insurgence of immoral acceptance.

Certainly, with same-sex marriage now accepted universally (except by those who adhere to the true word of God), nothing now seems off limits. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is often the first to jump into the fray to support anyone’s abhorrent behavior choices. For certain, everyone does have free will to do whatever they want, including killing someone, but a line has to be drawn somewhere and that line has already been established by God in the Holy Bible. Sadly, abnormal is becoming the normal in our society.

“Evangelist Briggle, are you really comparing a transgendered person with a murderer?” The Bible says, “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.” James 2:10

Perhaps a definition of transgender is necessary at this point. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, transgender is:of, relating to, or being a person (as a transsexual or transvestite) who identifies with or expresses a gender identity that differs from the one which corresponds to the person’s sex at birth.” Important emphasis in this definition is appropriate, that gender is that sex which one is born at birth, and not what one chooses or identifies with. Gender is not a choice. Gender is identified clearly at birth, re-enforced by this respected secular dictionary’s definition, even if one elects a surgical sex change (anatomical) at a later date. The lone exception to this is the rare instance when one is born with both male/female organs. It’s beyond my pay grade to figure that out; I’ll let God do that!

“So, Evangelist Briggle, you still haven’t told us your opinion of what you think of this whole transgender phenomenon.” My opinion doesn’t matter, but what does matter is what the divine Word of God says.  “Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men.1 Cor 6:9 (New International Version) Another translation records this important verse this way:Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites.” (King James Version) It’s very clear that God has set a standard here who will not enter the kingdom of heaven; do not be deceived!

Though modern history revisionists write differently, America was clearly founded as a Christian nation, freedom “of” religion, not “from” religion. The moral principles of this country created “under God” have been understood and practiced for over 300 years. The moral decadence has morphed quickly into where we are today within the past ten years, though the seeds have been rooting under the surface for years before. Yes, there has always been moral decadence, even in our country’s infancy, but always covertly, and never with the acceptance that it has gained today, and never without the legal protections of these most recent couple of years. We are on a fast track to hell!

The Apostle Paul wrote stern warnings in his letter to the Romans, God’s handiwork to much of Jesus Christ’s moral guidelines. It is well worth the read now: For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: and likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient… Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” Rom 1:26-28, 32 (King James Version)

When you read the above passage, did you feel the heat of hell rising up your spine? Read verse 32 again, “Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” Verse 32 is translated in the New American Standard Version as, “and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them. The underlined was done so to warn that those who accept and approve decadent behavior as one’s personal choice may themselves also be guilty of the same transgressions. Again, not my opinion, but the Word of God.

When preachers, priests, evangelists, laypersons, or other spiritual leaders and everyday Christians speak out against such morally deficient behaviors, they are labeled as bigots, homo-phobes, insensitive, intolerant, not hip to societal changes, and even categorized as ignorant fools to biological “science” that people are just born into bodies and should have the choice to their own sexual preferences. Good Lord; save us from ourselves! I just learned of a new label for those who object to transgender sensitivity: trans-phobic! When we preach against such behavior, we are using the Bible as the standard.  As long as we are teaching and preaching from the Bible, it is God’s written Word that convicts, not us; plead your case with Him! We are just messengers for His Word!

Hmmm…. I recently heard on the radio that it is time for the transgender/LGBT and the evangelicals to get together and come up with a compromise, so that the evangelicals can receive the transgenders/LGBT people into the grace of God. I hate to tell those people who are stubborn and gullible and looking to make the ungodly righteous and Godly– only God can do that; God does not compromise.  “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Heb 13:8 LGBT are people, for sure, and should be allowed into any church, but they must know that they must confess their sins and repent (change their ways) before they are eligible to enter the kingdom of heaven. All churches are not equal and all do not teach the truth. The Bible is very clear, that many are doomed at God’s judgment, including those who are LGBT. Not me saying this, but God’s holy Word.  “But the word of the LORD endures forever.” 1 Peter 1:25

Transgender bathrooms? No, I did not answer that question above but did set the tone of what the Word of God says about a person’s gender. But why do transgenders receive special treatment all of a sudden, to be forced by law through federal executive order to be allowed to go into the restroom of their choosing? Nobody sees a problem with that? Personally, I do believe it is just to continue an intentional degradation of our society, and to politically create more issues of separation, to continue exacerbating the stereotypes of intolerant Christians, and further lead our country down the path of societal destruction. Important again to note that the so-called “intolerance of Christians” is simply a warning to others that this sort of behavior is unacceptable to God and carries with it the warnings of eternal life in hell (see my post on heaven and hell).

A report published in April 2011 by the Williams Institute estimated that 3.8 percent of Americans identified thgemselves as gay/lesbian, bisexual, or transgender: 1.7 percent as lesbian or gay, 1.8 percent as bisexual, and 0.3 percent as transgender. So let me get this straight. We are to cater to 0.3 percent of the population by forcing companies/schools/public institutions to allow any person to decide which restroom he/she feels comfortable in on any  particular day? Again, nobody sees a problem with that? Of course, there are many who do, and not just Christians. Common sense is no longer common, but common sense has become the ignored, as we continually spiral downward toward the same fate of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Since its inception, America has been a blessed country, blessed by our living God, and a country that quickly soared to be the greatest country this world has ever known. Great founding leaders of Christian faith were guided through the wisdom and knowledge of our heavenly Father. Great strength came from a source not of this world. Miracles in battles; miracles in resources; miracles in prosperity; miracles of freedom and liberty. “…God shed His grace on thee…” All that seems in jeopardy as God has given us subtle warnings, and some not so subtle. Perhaps Evangelist Billy Graham was right. God must “Punish America, or apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.”

I have heard it argued that Jesus never spoke out against homosexuality and other sexually-illicit behavior. This is a topic for more in-depth discussion later, but briefly, Jesus DID speak out against such, through His calling upon the Apostle Paul to teach the warnings. Jesus made a clear transfiguration appearance to Paul on his road to Damascus, and Paul received the powerful and detailed revelation directly from Jesus Christ that has become the foundation of Christianity.

Here is some shocking information you may not be aware of.  When the supreme court justices voted 5-4 to make same sex marriage the law-of-the-land, six of the supreme court justices were Roman Catholics (that included the now-deceased Antonin Scalia) and the other three professed members of the Jewish faith. There is simply no way, if they were true to their faith, that any of these justices should have voted for same sex marriage because they should understand the biblical example of man-woman marriage! The same is true with any future decisions on homosexual/transgender issues, or abortion challenges, for that matter.  These justices clearly must know the Bible made man and woman to be as the gender of which they were born.  We simply have to pray that these justices are aware of the warning of Romans 1:32 and that they heed God’s warning..

There is some good news. Christians are fighting back successfully and common sense legislation is being introduced in many states. At the time of this writing, 14 states have sued the federal government to over-turn the forced transgender bathroom issue. Though not a theme of this post, anti-abortion laws are being enacted in several states, limiting abortion within strict criteria. There is hope, but we must all let our voices be known to our legislators. If you are unresponsive with a don’t care, oh-well attitude, our political leaders will continue down the road we are going. We must not give in, but we must fight! Our county’s strength and future prosperity and independence are at risk.

I do ask that we all pray for our world, our country, our supreme court justices, our political and spiritual leaders, our churches and families, to have the strength to fight against the demonic attacks on our society, on our families, and our spiritual leaders, to ask God to intervene with His almighty wisdom and might, to save us from ourselves. I pray, Lord, please guide us, too, to make good decisions based on  Your most holy standards.  Amen.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Your comments are welcome.

  1. John, you are right on point! What is this world coming to anyways. I can’t understand people sometimes. They seriously don’t see a problem with transgenders “picking” the restroom or shower facilities that they are going to use?
